We are delighted to announce that we are part funding a really exciting street art project that is being carried out by Wood Street Walls
Following on from a number of popular local murals painted over the past year by Wood Street Walls, they felt they wanted to create a lasting artwork that gave residents a sense of ownership and so they approached us about their latest idea.
What originally started as an opportunity to paint a portrait of the borough’s most famous artist & social activist, William Morris, changed through the involvement of HEET, a Walthamstow organisation that works with the elderly and those on low income to improve the energy efficiency of their home. Prior to painting the gable end wall on a Bedford Road proprety that overlooks the William Morris Gallery car park, the home will be fully insulated – demonstrating that energy efficiency can be both “Useful & Beautiful”.
The new mural will be painted by ATMA, a Blackhorse Road resident and a founding artist of Wood Street Walls.
Residents are being asked to choose what backdrop the William Morris portrait is painted on! To vote for your favourite, visit www.pickyourpattern.co.uk The online poll closes on on 1st August 2016.
Below is an image of how the mural could look with just one of the 6 pattern options available. Make sure to vote for the pattern you’d like to permanently see, especially if you are a William Morris Ward resident!
