Come and work at William Morris Big Local

***The deadline to apply for this role has now passed and we look forward to welcoming our newest member of the team soon.***

We’re looking for a new Project Engagement Officer. Do you have traditional and digital communication skills, as well as stakeholder engagement and administration expertise? Do you want to support a vibrant community-led partnership that improves people’s lives and the area they live in?

We’re looking for a new member of staff to join us as we scale up the delivery of our exciting plans. Our new staff member will work alongside a committee of volunteers, our Project Lead, and our Youth Opportunities Co-ordinator.

As our Project Engagement Officer you would be leading our communications work, and developing our outreach – encouraging more local people to get involved with William Morris Big Local. The job combines office-based work with being out and about in the community.

William Morris Design Line: happening now

From a striking new piece of public art on the steps of Waltham Forest College, to events at Blackhorse Workshop exploring activism and open-source design, the William Morris Design Line is forging a creative route through our area this week.

The route follows the main roads of Wood Street, Forest Road and Blackhorse Lane, with small deviations on side roads to find new street art from Wood Street Walls, as well as other surprises. One exhibit opens a window into the social history of craft and reveals a local connection to a world-famous family known for 20th Century furniture making. Children and families are invited to go on a ‘Morris Hunt’ along the route, ending with an exhibition of Mini-Morris artworks, created during lockdown by local artist Sean Rodrigo along with local children.

Motivated by William Morris’s statement ‘art from the people, for the people’, the Design Line has been produced by William Morris Big Local and Wood Street Walls, through our Urban by Nature partnership, with the aim of bringing the community together to celebrate creativity and resilience, and to inspire future young designers.

Join us at our socially-distanced event

For the first time since lockdown, we’re holding an event! Inside Out will be a socially-distanced, outdoor opportunity to enjoy our local green spaces with music, dancing and story telling.

The event is happening on Saturday 29 August, from 1 to 5pm. There will be stalls and activities spaced out along South Countess Road and Priory Court, forming a trail from the top of South Countess Road to Higham Hill Library.

The day will also mark the official opening of our new garden tool library – in partnership with Forest Recycling Project – and there will be opportunities to get your hands in the soil with some community gardening.

The Blair Academy will be hosting an outdoor living room, as well as hip hop activities, and there will be giant games, crafts, and an opportunity to get a free William Morris Big Local goody bag if you complete our stamp card by visiting everywhere on the trail.
